Crossing the River Manifold and the Wettonmill tea shop.
Broad Ecton Farm.
Two solitary trees above Top of Ecton.
Looking over to Butterton.
A panorama looking West from near Top of Ecton (click on the image for a larger version).
A Small Tortoiseshell butterfly.
The path just visible leading to Dutchman Mine. Just one of many coppermines in the area.
The building at the top is the engine house for Deep Ecton Mine.
The entrance to the Dutchman Mine. Good ventilation here as felt by the very cold air emanating from the entrance.
Deep Ecton Mine Engine House overlooking the valley.
A concessionary path led up to the summit trig point of Ecton Hill at 369m.
Looking back to what used to be 'Pepper Inn', an isolation hospital for the navies who contracted
smallpox when building the Manifold Light Railway. Photo taken from the path leading up past Wetton Hill.
Another concessionary path from Wetton Village leading up to the top of Thor's Cave. A large cave accessed from a path at the side of the River manifold. The ridge directly above having a near vertical drop, great care is needed here.
From the top of Thor's Cave looking North along the Manifold Valley. My return path visible
at the bottom which follows the route of the old Leak & Manifold Light Railway.
The entrance to Thor's Cave. It's a good job it was a dry day as the rocks are well polished with all the
visitors, I would imagine they are very slippery when wet.
From inside Thor's Cave looking out over the Manifold Valley.
A last look back at Thor's Cave as I head back to Wettonmill, the start of my walk.
